Investigation of Recovery of Volatiles of Bidens tripartita L. Using Solid-Phase Extraction Trap in Supercritical Fluid Extraction

Abstract: Recovery of Bidens tripartita L. volatiles using supercritical CO 2 extraction with solid-phase trap was performed in this study. Three aspects were under investigation: the impact of solvent (heptane, methanol or acetonitrile) applied to rinse the analytes from the trap; the impact of the amount of plant material used for extraction; the release of volatiles from plant matrix using multiple extraction. α-Pinene, p-cymene, β-ocimene, and β-elemene were predominant in all extracts prepared in different ways. β-… Show more

“…Solid-phase trapping is extensively used for polychlorinated polyaromatic hydrocarbons [43] and petroleum hydrocarbons [44]. Studies of solid-phase extraction, trapping of volatile oils have also been published [45]; however, to my knowledge, there is no description of the use of solid-phase trapping in SFE of lipids, including FFAs and the results. It would be interesting to investigate the influence on the composition of FFAs by trapping material in SFE solid-phase trapping.…”

“…The main components of the essential oil obtained from the roots of B. tripartita by hydrodistillation were α-pinene, β-bisabolene, p-cymene, hexanal, linalool, p-cymene-9-ol, β-elemene, 2-pentylfuran, and silphiperfol-6-ene (Tomczykowa et al, 2011). In turn, α-pinene, p-cymene, β-ocimene, and β-elemene are predominant in extracts prepared by supercritical CO 2 extraction with solid-phase trap (Kaškonienė & Maruška, 2015).…”
