“…In addition, it can be seen from Fig. 1 Co-PCB in both secondary copper and aluminum production, which is in coincidence with the prediction of Stieglitz et al about the de novo synthesis of organochlorocompounds in thermal process (Jay and Stieglitz, 1997;Stieglitz et al, 1997). This distribution indicates that the de novo synthesis may be also the main mechanism of formation of Co-PCB.…”

“…These indicate that the de novo synthesis may be the main formation mechanism of PCDD/Fs. Moreover, the higher R DF/DD in this study, as compared to other studies, 10,12 indicates that de novo synthesis is more likely to be the dominant formation mechanism of PCDD/Fs in the secondary lead metallurgy. In contrast, the importance of precursor formation and de novo synthesis in the formation of PCDD/Fs in the secondary zinc metallurgy is thought to be similar to each other because the ratio of PCDF/ PCDD is close to 1 also with the dominant presence of the lower chlorinated homologue in the stack gas samples.…”

“…The largest contribution to such a reduction was made by the waste incinerators and was attributed to the drastic change from small batch-type furnaces to large continuous-type facilities and also to the application of advanced waste gas treatment systems. In the waste incineration process, the rapid cooling of high-temperature gases to less than 200°C is recommended; this action will suppress the de novo synthesis reaction 1) of dioxins during the cooling stage of waste gases. Additional measures such as activated carbon injection and catalytic decomposition process are often applied to waste gases.…”
