“…Also, El-Kannishy et al proved that patients with CHC had significantly higher oxidative stress, which can lead to chronic inflammation (45). Moreover, Dikici et al found that patients with CHC had increased oxidative stress and decreased levels of some important antioxidants such as GSH and β-carotene are in accordance with the findings of other investigators (46)(47)(48)(49)(50). Indeed, it has been shown that the amount of reactive oxygen species (ROS) found in healthy human livers was significantly lower than values found in the liver affected hepatitis C (51).…”

“…It can be argued that increased lipid peroxidation is caused by the inflammation related to viral infection, and the decreased antioxidant levels may be an early marker of the oxidative stress. Lipid peroxides formed can be chemotactic for the neutrophils causing increased inflammation, which further drives oxidant-mediated injury in the liver (20). The results presented confirm the involvement of the oxidative stress as a part of the pathophysiology of CHC.…”

“…Previous studies demonstrated that oxidative stress played an important role in the process of HBV infection (Bolukbas et al 2005;Dikici et al 2005;Lin et al 2011). MDA and TNF-α, which were markers for oxidative stress, Glutathione-S-transferases (GSTs) can protect cells against damages from toxic substances (Hayes and McLellan 1999;Tew and Ronai 1999).…”

“…It is estimated that 780,000 people die from HBV infection every year. Although the inner mechanism for HBV infection is still not fully understood, many studies have demonstrated that oxidative stress plays an important role in the development and progression of HBV infection (Bolukbas et al 2005;Dikici et al 2005;Lin et al 2011).…”
