Investigation of Electromagnetic Field Coupling with Twisted Conducting Line by Expanded Chain Matrix

Abstract: -In the current paper, we propose a new modeling algorithm to analyze the coupling between an incident electromagnetic field (EMF) and a twisted conducting line, which is a kind of non-uniform line. Typically, analysis of external field coupling to a uniform transmission line (TL) is implemented by the Baum-Liu-Tesche (BLT) equation so that the induced load responses can be obtained. However, it is difficult to apply this method to the analysis of a twisted conducting line. To overcome this limitation, we used… Show more

“…It was experimentally proven in [11] that in the frequency range where the screen thickness is less than the depth of the skin layer, the inductance of the twisted shielded pair [12] increases. This leads to a decrease in the loss of electromagnetic energy in conductors [13,14] and, in general, in a twisted pair, provided the thickness of the electrical insulation is increased [10]. These works do not take into account the stochastic nature of the twisting step and its effect on the electric capacitance of the cable.…”

After publication of this article [1], it was brought to our attention that we had neglected to acknowledge the similarities between this current article and the work of Cho et al [2]. Specifically, there are similarities in how to use the Chain Matrix between the articles [1, 2] although the objective and case studies are different from each other.

“…In this paper, to overcome the mentioned problems and limitations, a novel method based on the expanded chain matrix is presented using MTL theory as extended version of analysis of field coupling with unshielded twisted pair cable [5]. The proposed method uses ABCD parameters, which consider the coupling component of each line, and the twisted pairs are modeled by finite number of small sections.…”

“…Traditionally, the behavior of the induced responses on the inner conductors can be evaluated using MTL theory [5]. For complex structure of the cable layout such as twisted pair or in a high frequency range, a full wave analysis such as the FDTD method is a very popular way to analyze transient fields in 3-dimensional domains.…”
