Investigation of Changes in NO Content during Long-Term Sensitization in Edible Snail Using EPR-Spectroscopy: Effects of Antibodies to Calcium-Binding Protein S-100

Abstract: EPR-spectroscopy experiments (electron paramagnetic resonance) demonstrated a decrease in NO production in the nervous system and heart of edible snail Helix lucorum after formation of long-term sensitization, a neurobiological model of anxiety and depression. The protective effect of antibodies to Ca(2+)-binding protein S-100 in dilution of 10(-12) on the formation of long-term sensitization was accompanied by partial recovery of NO synthesis in the nervous system and heart. These findings indicate that the i… Show more

“…The EPR signals of cytochrome P-450 (g y = 1.92, g x = 2.25, g z = 2.42). iron-sulfur (FeS) containing centers of adrenodoxin (g ‖ = 1.94, g ┴ = 2.02), nitrosyl complexes of heme (HbNO) (g c = 2.01), and nonheme iron (FeSNO) (g = 2.03) were identified by their g-factors (Simpson & Miller, 1978;Pulatova et al, 1989;Tuckey et al, 2001) (calculated according to the signal's position relative to the spectral lines of the standard sample (Mn 2 in MgO powder)) (Kirima et al, 2003;Gainutdinov et al, 2009).…”

“…Concentration of NO in both heart and ganglia fluctuates around 1 nM, which is decreased by NO synthase (NOS) inhibitor Nω-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (Mantione and Stefano, 2004). In the heart and CNS of Helix the NO release was also suppressed by a paradigm that mimics depression and fear (Gainutdinov et al, 2008). The endogenous sources of NO in Aplysia are L29 interneurons of left abdominal ganglion, since an in situ hybridization revealed expression of NOS (Antonov et al, 2007).…”
