Investigation of Asphalt Pavement to Improve Environmental Noise and Water Sustainability

Abstract: Controlling environmental noise and reducing excessive noise is necessary to protect human health and provide auditory comfort. People are frequently exposed to traffic noise in their daily life and traffic noise is a considerable problem on the city scale. This study investigates the sound absorption coefficient in asphalt pavements so as to reduce traffic and environmental noise. The important parameters affecting the sound absorption coefficient in asphalt pavement, such as the use of porous asphalt pavemen… Show more

“…Furthermore, investigations by Liu et al (2023) and Bozkurt and Karakaş (2022) have focused explicitly on the acoustic benefits of porous asphalt. The unique structure of porous asphalt allows for sound penetration and absorption and has consistently proven effective in mitigating traffic-related noise, particularly in urban settings.…”

“…The calculation of the model was performed in two steps. First, prior to analyzing the disturbance depth of the traffic load, the boundary constraint condition of the model was set as the elastic Note: (1) The surface layer is asphalt pavement, and the range of elastic modulus was determined by referring to the existing research [24,25] and specifications [26]. The rest of the parameters were determined according to engineering experience.…”

“…Based on the surface-free energy introduction in Section 2.3.2 of this paper, the set of Equation (11) for calculating the surface-free energy of asphalt could be obtained by combining Equation ( 5) and the three known liquid surface energy parameters:…”

“…In China, up to 70 million tons of waste asphalt pavement materials are produced annually, and while the basalt aggregate used for the drainage of asphalt pavement has low reserves and the high-viscosity-modified asphalt cost is high, the use of recycled technology for pavement rehabilitation is particularly necessary [ 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 ]. On the one hand, researchers used the recycling agent to regenerate aged high-viscosity asphalt and evaluate the conventional performance of recycled asphalt.…”
