Investigation of a Transistor Clamped T-Type Multilevel H-Bridge Inverter With Inverted Double Reference Single Carrier PWM Technique for Renewable Energy Applications

Abstract: The Multilevel inverters (MLIs) are a new breed of power electronics converters. They are primarily used for the conversion of dc power to ac power. The two-level inverters are conventionally used to obtain ac power, but it requires operating the switches under very high switching frequency. Besides, the two-level inverter necessitates the use of LC filters with the switches operating under high dv/dt stress. The MLIs offer the advantage of utilizing several dc voltage sources to generate a stepped ac waveform… Show more

“…It thus reduces the voltage level to 1⁄2 with those of the inputs, resulting in a higher duty cycle but higher losses (Bhaskar et al 2020). Varieties of studies have been conducted to reduce the elements of MLI, and numerous designs have been recommended depending on the various layers that face obstacles (Dhanamjayulu et al 2020), (Mukundan et al 2020).…”

“…Switching frequency for multilevel inverters is considered high if it is above 1 kHz. High switching frequency modulations like multicarrier/ multireference PWM [9]- [12], space vector modulation (SVM) [13], [14] are superior in terms of harmonic minimization; however, they suffer from high switching losses. To overcome this issue, low switching frequency modulations are used.…”

“…MLIs use isolated dc sources and small capacitors to synthesize output voltage in small steps through the cascading connection of H-Bridge (HB), half leg structure with clamping diodes and flying capacitors (Rodriguez et al , 2002). Several remarkable achievements have been registered in developing topological structures (Trabelsi et al , 2021; Mhiesan et al , 2020; Bhaskar, 2020) and modulation strategies (Gnanasambandam et al , 2017; Meraj et al , 2019; Shukla et al , 2007). A new MLI topology is based on multilevel dc-link and an HB inverter to reduce the switching devices, dc sources and clamping capacitors/diodes to offer more voltage levels.…”
