Investigating the vibration properties of integrated ceiling systems considering interactions with surrounding equipment

Abstract: Studies on recent earthquakes highlighted that buildings with minimal structural damage still suffer from extensive damage and failure of nonstructural components. The dropping and damage of suspended ceiling systems, which typically consist of acceleration-sensitive nonstructural elements, resulted in lengthy functional disruptions and extended recovery time. This article experimentally and analytically examined the vibration properties of an integrated ceiling system considering the interactions with surroun… Show more

“…Two-elevation ceiling systems often exist because of the inevitable requirements of installing air ducts and piping. 24 After installing the support grid systems, which are made of main and cross runners, the inclined members are temporarily deployed between the two elevations for positioning. The main runners at the higher elevation first extend over a certain distance, and then the inclined members made of U-38 × 12 × 1.6 are employed to connect these members with the main runners at the lower elevation.…”

“…To obtain K xx , a calculation model of CDSW is to be established. First, the generic line element model with Euler beams has limited accuracy in designing CDSW because of the neglected shear deformations, although it displayed satisfactory accuracy in designing slender beams or special braces, 32 which exhibited negligible shear. Additionally, as plotted in Figure 21A, when the joints of the CDSW rotate, significant deviations are generated due to the accompanied rotation of large CFT sections.…”
