Investigating the Industrial Potentials of Some Selected Nigerian Clay Deposits

Abstract: One of the most important useful and widely abundant industrial minerals in the world is the clay minerals. Their applications in various industries are dependent on their properties. In this study, the mineralogical and physico-chemical properties of RahinSho (RC), Major Porter (MP), Wereng camp (WC), Kwi (KC) and Naraguta (NC) clay deposits in Plateau State, Nigeria were investigated to evaluate their potentials for some industrial uses. The x-ray diffraction studies revealed the kaolins as the dominant clay… Show more

“…The best way to characterize natural clays is to examine their crystallite compositions. In this study, the particle size distribution was defined not by the grain size obtained through comminution, but rather according to the natural crystallite size of the minerals found in the clays (Jongs et al 2018).…”

“…The most disaggregated clay minerals with major ionic exchange capability are more often plastic in nature. Montmorillonitic minerals are most plastic, than illitics, and least kaolinitics [6]. Clays and clay minerals such as montmorillonite, vermiculite, illite, kaolinite, and bentonite are widely used in process and petroleum industries, engineering and constructions, environmental remediation, ceramics and refractories, pharmaceuticals and agricultural sectors [7].…”
