“…Electronic (e)-cigarette devices have evolved rapidly since the modern version was introduced in 2007 [1,2]. Inhalation of aerosols generated by these devices have been tied to multiple lung diseases, and diseases and pathology outside the lungs, while the underlying mechanisms driving e-cigarette associated pathology remain unknown [3][4][5][6][7]. With over a hundred vaping devices and thousands of e-liquids on the market, e-cigarettes introduce numerous chemicals first into the lung and then rapidly into the circulation due to high permeability of alveoli.…”

“…Currently, there are very few studies on sleep duration and electronic cigarettes, and of the studies, controversy remains as to if an association exists. Researchers recently concluded that dual use of electronic cigarettes with conventional tobacco is associated with decreased sleep quality in women [21]. Other researchers who examined sleep data on 2488 California adolescents found no significant difference in weekday sleep time duration between adolescents who used electronic cigarettes at a higher frequency and lower frequency, although adolescents who used electronic cigarettes slept significantly less on weekends compared with adolescents who did not use electronic cigarettes [22].…”

“…Inhalant use patterns, sleep quality, and cough were assessed utilizing the UCSD Inhalant Survey (8, 10), the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and the Leicester Cough Questionnaire (LCQ) (10,15). All three surveys plus demographic questions and those to quantify marijuana and other recreational drug use were combined in one online survey.…”

“…Use of e-cigarettes has been associated with increased cough (12)(13)(14). In our prior study, we saw a nonsigni cant trend of increased cough in e-cigarette vapers versus non-smoking/non-vaping controls (15). With this larger study, we sought to assess the prevalence of cough in different types of inhalant users, with a speci c question regarding whether dual use leads to the highest rates of cough across inhalant users.…”
