Investigating temperature-induced structural changes of lead halide perovskites by in situ X-ray powder diffraction

Abstract: In situ X‐ray diffraction experiments offer a unique opportunity to investigate structural dynamics at atomic resolution, by collecting several patterns in an appropriate time sequence (data matrix) while varying the applied stimulus (e.g. temperature changes). Individual measurements can be processed independently by refinement procedures that are based on prior knowledge of the average structure of each crystal phase present in the sample. If the refinement converges, parameters of the average structural mod… Show more

“…MSA applied to X-ray measurements has started to develop in recent decades and is still a relatively novel field, as described in a recent review (Guccione et al, 2021). PCA, in particular, has been applied to both single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction for in situ experiments (Lopresti et al, 2021;Conterosito et al, 2020;Palin et al, 2019;Matos et al, 2007;Guccione et al, 2018), and when combining different techniques such as XRPD and Raman spectroscopy (Urakawa et al, 2011) or XRPD and pair distribution function (PDF)/UV-Vis (Caliandro, Altamura et al, 2019;Caliandro, Toson et al, 2019). Concerning XRF, the use of MSA is already a consolidated practice.…”

“…In this context, covariance maps have been used to identify correlated features present in diffraction and spectroscopic profiles. Examples include investigations of temperature-induced phase changes in spin crossover materials by XRPD/Raman [36] perovskites by combining XRPD and pair distribution function (PDF) measurements [62], characterization of hybrid composite material known as Maya Blue performed by XRPD/UV-Vis [63] and metabolite-crystalline phase correlation in wine leaves by XRPD coupled with mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance [64].…”
