Penelitian dilakukan dalam upaya mencari sebuah jawaban atas pertanyaan dari keraguan atas sesuatu ataupun dari hasrat keingintahuan seseorang tentang hal tertentu. Jawaban dari pertanyaan penelitian akan diperoleh dengan baik jika peneliti melakukan tahapan serta pendekatan tertentu dalam melakukan penelitiannya, sesuai dengan jenis penelitiannya serta teori yang ingin dibangun dari penelitian tersebut. Metode penelitian seringkali digunakan para peneliti untuk memperkuat tahapan dalam setiap proses penelitian sehingga peneliti diharapkan tidak keluar dari jalur penelitian yang dilakukannya. Makalah ini bertujuan untuk memberikan gambaran metode yang sesuai untuk penelitian yang berbasis pada perilaku terutama untuk penelitian kesesakan (crowding) dan privasi pada hunian asrama. Metode penelitian survei dengan menggunakan kuesioner diplih dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui situasi dan kondisi tertentu yang terjadi termasuk apa yang mempengaruhinya, sehingga kemudian data tersebut dapat memberikan gambaran fenomena yang terjadi. Penelitian semacam ini perlu untuk dilakukan karena saling memperkaya dan melengkapi data yang dibutuhkan antara yang bersifat fisik (bangunan) dan non-fisik (persepsi). Mengungkap perseptual manusia dalam merespon lingkungan sekitarnya, merupakan upaya mengoptimalkan hubungan diantara keduanya dalam rangka menghasilkan desain yang jauh lebih sempurna.

This research aimed to interpret motivations of tourists for agritourism in Fiji. Data was collected through a paper-based face to face survey. Structured questionnaires were administered to a convenience sample of tourists at the two international airports. Descriptive and factorial statistics reveal seven principal factors that motivate and influence visitor preferences for agritourism venues. Most tourists seemed interested in agritourism but presently were unaware of the existence of such venues in Fiji. Findings also suggest that tourists preferred a short stay at working farms offering value for money experience. In terms of importance, hospitality followed by entertainment, were the two main desired services for an agritourism venue. This research offers insights for dynamic product development for the Fijian and Pan-Pacific agritourism industry.

This paper reveals the impact of acculturation through education, social interaction and media on the nurturing of foodways among three Malaysian ethnic groups. It assists one to understand other ethnic food traditions, be accustomed to different ingredients and recipes, and get to know other’s preferred eating and serving practices. Acculturation catalyzes the use of a wide variety of food in the community and introduces new eating and cooking practices. The practices of other ethnic food help create a strong confidence in the formation of a common acceptable food.
