Inventing America on the Borders of Socialist Imagination: Movies and Music from the USA and the Origins of American Studies in the USSR

Abstract: This essay explores how products of American culture, such as movies, literature, and music during the 1940s and 1950s not only triggered interest in American history and culture but also contributed to the academic careers of Lev Zubok, Aleksei Efimov, and their students, such as Nikolai Bolkhovitinov.
