Introduction to the Maïdo Lidar Calibration Campaign dedicated to the validation of upper air meteorological parameters

Abstract: International audienceThe first operations at the new High-altitude Maïdo Observatory at La Réunion began in 2013. The Maïdo Lidar Calibration Campaign (MALICCA) was organized there in April 2013 and has focused on the validation of the thermodynamic parameters (temperature, water vapor, and wind) measured with many instruments including the new very large lidar for water vapor and temperature profiles. The aim of this publication consists of providing an overview of the different instruments deployed during t… Show more

“…The intensive measurement campaign MALICCA‐1 (1 April to 20 April 2013) provided detailed data set of water vapor profiles on a short period. The main goal of the campaign was to set the best instrumental configuration for the Raman lidar system and to evaluate its data [ Dionisi et al ., ; Keckhut et al ., ]. This campaign allowed also to conduct scientific studies on various topics: moistening of the lower stratosphere, cirrus clouds, among others, and STE including the case study documented in this paper.…”

“…The MORGANE campaign will supply suitable data sets (lidars and lidar-CFH sondes comparisons) to go further in this investigation and to make the Raman lidar granted for the NDACC network label. Future data sets of this lidar will represent opportunities to validate some satellites water vapor measurements [4]. The Maïdo observatory offers a large panel of data thanks to the diversity of its remote sensing instruments.…”
