Introduction to the CDEX experiment

Abstract: Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) are the candidates of dark matter in our universe. Up to now any direct interaction of WIMP with nuclei has not been observed yet. The exclusion limits of the spin-independent cross section of WIMP-nucleon which have been experimentally obtained is about 10 −7 pb at high mass region and only 10 −5 pb at low mass region. China Jin-Ping underground laboratory CJPL is the deepest underground lab in the world and provides a very promising environment for direct observat… Show more

“…At the China Jinping Underground Laboratory, in Sichuan, the China Dark Matter Experiment (CDEX [155]) has undertaken several increasingly large target mass runs. Protected by a rock overburden of 2400m, the germanium detectors of CDEX-1 are enclosed in NaI(Tl) cylinders [107] enabling competitive background suppression to very low energy thresholds (0.32 keV ee ) for the Phase 1 run, the threshold reached was halved in the upgrade to CDEX-10 [109] and will ultimately be 100 eV ee for CDEX-1T [155].…”

“…It is situated in the Laboratoire Souterrain de Modane (LSM) [76,258]. The very first phase of the experiment started in the mid-1990s [96], developed into the EDELWEISS-I [143,144,280] and EDELWEISS-II [76,77] stages. It is now in the installation phase of EDELWEISS-III [74,258].…”

“…The CDEX [1] (China Dark matter EXperiment) in CJPL (China Jinping Underground Laboratory) [2] is located in Xichang, Sichuan province, China. CDEX-1 deploys one kg-scale mass pPCGe (p-type Point Contact Germanium) detector enclosed by a NaI(Tl) crystal scintillator as anti-Compton detector [3].…”
