“…Rapid control of the active lesions with periocular and systemic corticosteroids are necessary to limit extensive scarring and secondary CNV [77, 87]. Long-term steroid-sparing therapy such as cyclosporine, azathioprine, cyclophosphamide, interferon alpha-2a, or mycophenolate mofetil may be needed to prevent recurrence [78, 8891].…”

“…7 The mainstay of treatment of serpiginous choroiditis in acute presentation is systemic steroids with or without additional immunosuppressive, after tubercular etiology has been ruled out. 2 Recurrence and foveal involvement are causes of visual impairment in serpiginous choroiditis. 1 An immunosuppressant in combination with systemic steroids is found to be effective in long-term remission and rapid visual recovery, especially in vision-threatening serpiginous choroiditis.…”

“…High doses of steroids have been used in the past, leading to a reduction in activity but without achieving remission. 1,5 Immunosupressants such as cyclosporine or azathioprine have been tried as steroid sparing and adjuvant treatments with controversial results. 3,6 Because of the refractory nature of SC, alkylating agents and triple immunosupressive therapy have proven useful in some patients, 7-8 but unfortunately our patient presented intolerance to various drugs, including cyclosporine.…”
