Intraurethral fluorouracil and lidocaine for intraurethral condyloma acuminata

Abstract: Urethral instillation via urethral syringe of fluorouracil injection mixed with lidocaine gel reduced the size and number of a man's intraurethral condyloma acuminata, allowed cystourethroscopy, and eliminated hematuria. There was no new growth of condyloma acuminata after six months.

“…Furthermore, other adverse events such as hematuria and stricture rarely occurred with 5-FU instillation. Previous studies have reported various regimens of 5-FU instillation, such as dose, retention time, dosage frequency, and the number of cycles [5][6][7][8]. In the current study, 10 ml of 5% 5-FU cream was administered to the urethra for a total of twice biweekly intervals.…”

“…A novel device, an endoscopic hemostatic applicator, was used for even instillation from the prostatic urethra to the urethral meatus to prevent the recurrence of CA. In previous studies, the instillation of 5-FU was performed using a lidocaine syringe [7,8]. However, we believed that the lidocaine syringe is inadequate to evenly distribute 5-FU in the entire urethra.…”

“…Surgical excision and laser therapy pose a significant risk of stricture. Although urethral instillation of fluorouracil injection has been reported to be effective for intraurethral condylomata acuminata, 9 it has not been established definitively.…”
