“…50 In the debate regarding the possible association between pituitary adenomas and sellar-region aneurysms, GH-secreting adenomas have been particularly implicated. 3,22,31,42,56,65 Our review of the literature revealed 3 cases of intrasellar aneurysms presenting in association with GH-secreting adenomas. 28,55,56 It has been suggested that these tumors induce systemic and local vascular changes that may promote arteriectasia and aneurysm formation.…”

“…16 This association has been supported by numerous subsequent reports. 1,3,12,22,30,31,38,55,56,58,59,[65][66][67] In Dr. Cushing's report, a 31-year-old blacksmith presented with headaches and visual loss over a period of 4 years, and then died suddenly with clinical features suspicious for SAH. On autopsy, he was found to have an intrasellar and suprasellar ICA aneurysm measuring 1.5 cm in diameter in conjunction with a chromophobe pituitary adenoma that was "the size of a pigeon's egg."…”

“…A single case report of a patient with an ectatic carotid artery causing hypopituitarism was published in 1967, 7 and further cases of aneurysms compressing the pituitary have been recorded. 1,4 In all these cases the aneurysms were large; indeed, in one of Bramwell's patients it measured 3 inches in diameter. All except one, whose neurological examination was not adequately recorded, had evidence of visual impairment or oculomotor weakness; radiological evidence of erosion of the sella turcica was almost invariable.…”

“…Endocrine disturbances, as well as radiological abnormalities and visual field defects of a type which occur with pituitary tumours, may be caused by intracranial aneurysms ( W h i t e & Ballantine 1961, Van'tHoff et al 1961, Kahana et al 1962, Arseni et al 1970, Shantharam & CZift 1974. The most common artery of origin for aneurysms that project into the sella turcica is the internal carotid.…”
