Intraoperative evaluation of micromultiplane transesophageal echocardiographic probe in surgery for congenital heart disease☆☆☆

Abstract: The micromulti TEE harmonic transducer provided excellent diagnostic intra-operative TEE in neonates and small children without major complications, special attention should be taken for ventilatory parameters in neonates less than 3kg.

“…[24][25][26][27][28][29] Recently, reports regarding the use of the microTEE miniaturized multiplane transesophageal echocardiographic probe (Philips Medical Systems, Andover, MA) in children have been published. [30][31][32] We herein present our experience with TEE using both the AcuNav ICE transducer and the microTEE transducer in this challenging patient population and clinical setting. In addition, we review previous published reports on the use of these transducers [27][28][29][30][31][32] in small children.…”

“…Some studies have assessed the efficiency of micro-TOE during perioperative care for patients undergoing cardiac surgery using different miniaturized probes [10,13,15,22]. We provide further evidence of the impact of TOE for children undergoing cardiac catheterization.…”

“…Various reports have demonstrated its initial safety and usefulness [8,[11][12][13][14]. However, this former release was gradually phased out in our centre and others because of degradation of imaging quality during examinations due to an overheating phenomenon [10].…”

“…(73) Recently, there have been advances in 3-D TOE for adolescents, (74) as well as multiplane technology which can now be applied in children as small as 2kg. (31) A realistic problem with TOE in small children is possible probe compression of the airway and big vessels, leading to desaturation (75) and haemodynamic compromise. (76) Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) can be diagnosed with TOE and also falls in the category I of indications.…”
