Intranasally inoculated bacterium-like particles displaying porcine epidemic diarrhea virus S1 protein induced intestinal mucosal immune response in mice

et al.

Abstract: Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) causes acute watery diarrhea and high mortality in newborn piglets. Activation of intestinal mucosal immunity is crucial to anti-PEDV infection. To develop a vaccine capable of stimulating intestinal mucosal immunity, we prepared a bacterium (Lactococcus lactis)-like particle (BLP) vaccine (S1-BLPs) displaying the S1 protein, a domain of PEDV spike protein (S), based on gram-positive enhancer matrix (GEM) particle display technology. We further compared the effects of dif… Show more

“…Scientists usually use it together with immunopotentiators when preparing vaccines to improve immunogenicity ( Khalaj-Hedayati et al, 2020 ; Wang et al, 2021 ; Mekonnen et al, 2022 ). Studies have confirmed that BLP is an effective immunopotentiator, and the BLP surface display platform has also been applied to the development of vaccines for various diseases ( Zhang et al, 2022 ; Su et al, 2023 ; Wang et al, 2023 ; Zhang et al, 2023 ). There are very few anchoring proteins available for the BLP surface display platform, though.…”

“…BLP is a type of immunopotentiator with enormous potential in vaccine development ( Heine et al, 2015 ). Because of their high safety, mucosal delivery efficiency, and adjuvant effect, BLP is widely used in the production of mucosal adjuvants and mucosal vaccines ( Zhang et al, 2022 ; Su et al, 2023 ; Wang et al, 2023 ; Zhang et al, 2023 ). There is a need to expand the range of mucosal vaccines based on BLP because there are currently few available due to the high technical requirements.…”
