Abstract: Studies on the intraindividual double burden of malnutrition (DBM) among Chinese children and adolescents were lacking. This study aimed to analyze the prevalence of intraindividual DBM defined as the coexistence of overweight/obesity and dietary micronutrient intake insufficiency and investigate dietary micronutrient intake in Chinese children and adolescents. Using data from the 2015 China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS), 1555 children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years were selected as the subjects. We r… Show more

“…The iron intake of 0–18-year-old children in China from national and sub-national studies (covering west and east China) ranged between 3.1 and 30 mg/day [ 28 , 36 , 42 , 50 , 51 , 62 , 84 , 96 , 97 ]. Inadequate intake was reported for children (3–17 years) in national studies between 10 and 24% [ 28 , 36 , 42 ]. CHNS 2015 reported <10% of normal-weight boys (6–17 years) and approximately 20% of normal-weight girls (6–12 years) were inadequate in iron [ 28 ].…”

CHNS 2015 reported <10% of normal-weight boys (6–17 years) and approximately 20% of normal-weight girls (6–12 years) were inadequate in iron [ 28 ]. Younger children met or were close to meeting EAR iron intake levels ( Table 4 ).…”

“…Our study also had several limitations. Firstly, this study was conducted in three boarding schools in Hunan Province and the proportions of overweight/obesity or hypertension were higher in our population compared to the general (overweight/obesity: 26.49% [44]; hypertension: ~4.0% [13]). Therefore, we should be cautious to generalize our results to other populations.…”

“…The prevalence of both overweight and obesity was higher in males than in females. Results from the 2015 China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS) showed that, generally, overweight prevalence was 15.43% and obesity prevalence was 11.06% among children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years [37]. Data from NHANES indicated that obesity prevalence among America youth aged 2-19 years, from 2015-2016, was 18.5% [38].…”
