Intrachain antiferromagnetic exchange in a 1D branched-chain built of two different copper(ii) centres interlinked by end-on azido and phenoxo bridges: electron density map, electrochemical and magnetic properties

Abstract: is the 1,3-Bis (naphthylideneimino) propane dianion, has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses and spectroscopic methods. This compound consists of 1D uniform chains in which the two types of Cu(II) ions, one with a distorted square pyramidal (Cu1) and the other with a distorted trigonal bipyramidal (Cu2) geometry, are interlinked by single end-on azido bridges. The magnetic properties of the complex have also been studied. Temperature-and field-dependent magnetic analyses reveal that antifer… Show more

“…The design of coordination polymers with a predictable secondary building unit (SBU) and dimensionality is a quasi-impossible task, but the quest remains of great interest for the discovery of new materials with desired properties such as gas adsorption, sensing, thermo-chromism, magnetism, conductivity, redox-activity, , catalysis, , nonlinear optical behavior, , and luminescence. , Recent reviews on CPs formed by mono- and dithioethers with CuX salts (X = Cl, Br, I) revealed that, when X = I, the SBU had a strong tendency to form closed cubanes (Cu 4 I 4 ) and 1D staircase polymeric structures, whereas the rhomboid Cu 2 X 2 S 4 SBU is predominately noted when X = Cl or Br. The key property is that the cubanes show luminescence regardless of the ligand, whereas the rhomboids and staircase motifs are almost always weakly or not emissive. ,, Also, the presence of 2D and 3D CPs increases drastically when semirigid or rigid dithioethers are used as assembling ligands. ,, The interest in 2D and 3D CPs stems from the possibility to form MOF-like materials .…”

“…The complex crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pbca (Table 1). The structure determination reveals that the copper(II) center is coordinated by one amine nitrogen atom, N (22), one imine nitrogen atom, N (19), one phenoxo oxygen atom, O (11), of the deprotonated Schiff base ligand, (L) − , and one nitrogen atom, N(1), and one sulfur atom, S(1), of two end-to-end bridging thiocyanate ligands. The sixth coordination site is occupied by a symmetry related (1 − x, −y, 1 − z) phenoxo oxygen atom, O(11) a , from a Schiff base ligand to complete its octahedral geometry.…”

“…Multinuclear copper(II) complexes containing Schiff base ligands have received attention for their structural diversity [1][2][3][4][5][6] and for various applications and properties, such as electrochemical [7,8] and magnetic properties [9,10] and antiradical effects [11]. Considerable effort has been devoted to the preparation and characterization of multinuclear copper (II) complexes with various Schiff base ligands and bridging dicyanamido [12], azido [13][14][15] and acetate [16] ligands.…”
