Abstract:A 51-year old asymptomatic woman with no history of trauma or other relevant pathological background was referred to our institution due to an intracardiac aorta-right atrial fistula. Diagnosis was made by echocardiography and confirmed by cardiac catheterization. Surgical closure of both orifices (Figs. 1 and 2) was performed under cardiopulmonary bypass.
“…In 2004 Prahash et al described a case of a 43‐year‐old male with right‐sided heart failure due to SOV‐RA fistula who underwent surgical repair successfully; in this case the fistula was repaired with an patch. In 2012 Pancas et al reported a case of a 51‐year‐old female with asymptomatic aorta‐right atrium tunnel which was surgically repaired by closure of both right atrial and aortic orifices performed under cardiopulmonary bypass.…”
An aorta to right atrium fistula is rare. We report a case of idiopathic aortic root to right atrial fistula with right heart failure and review the literature. doi: 10.1111/jocs.12751 (J Card Surg 2016;31:373-375).
