Intra-session repeatability of iridocorneal angle measurements provided by a Scheimpflug photography-based system in healthy eyes

Abstract: The glaucoma analysis mode of the Sirius system provides consistent measurements of the iridocorneal angle at different meridians in healthy eyes, with slightly less consistency for nasal measurements. It may be considered a clinically useful non-invasive technique for the detection of potentially occludable angles.

“…Many studies have reported the morphological changes of anterior segment after laser peripheral iridotomy . However, the advantage of the Scheimpflug‐Placido disc topographer is that it is a non‐contact, non‐invasive imaging modality which allows measurement of anterior segment changes before and after laser peripheral iridotomy.…”

“…A recent study evaluated intra‐session repeatability of iridocorneal angle measurements of different meridians (0°, ±10°, ±20° and ±30°) in the nasal and temporal areas in 43 healthy eyes (age range, 36–79 years) using the Sirius Scheimpflug photography‐based system (Costruzione Strumenti Oftalmici, Florence, Italy). Mean co‐efficient of variation ranged from 1.36 ± 1.05 per cent (nasal 0° position) to 10.92 ± 13.95 per cent (nasal −20° position) and intraclass correlation co‐efficient values ranged from 0.778 to 0.972.…”

“…The limitations of the present study are as follows. First, a single measurement was performed on all patients because repeatability of ACA [23, 24], central ACD [1012, 23, 25], and ACV [25] measurements of the Sirius in unoperated eyes and those after refractive surgery [25] has been confirmed by other studies. Second, we did not verify accommodative alterations because of the retrospective nature of this study.…”
