Results: Reasons for ileostomy were as follows: covering ileostomy, n=18; small bowel obstruction due to malignant tumor, n=6; and diverting stoma, n=2. Mean height of the oral-side outlet ( n=18 ) was 19.3 mm ( range, 5-32 mm ) , and verticality was generally maintained, but 7 cases showed a slight lean ( lateral, n=6; caudal, n=1 ) . Mean height in lateral lean cases was 24.2 mm, which was significantly higher than that in stomas without leans. Complications were observed in 4 cases ( parastomal hernia, n=2; oral-side depression/anal-side incarceration, n=1; and prolapsed stoma, n=1 ) , but none developed serious skin damage around the stoma. Conclusion: This method appears to facilitate creation of a loop ileostomy with adequate height and an acceptable lean.
