Implementation of the Presumption of Innocence by journalists has implications for the occurrence of trial by the press and potentially impacts social disharmony. This study aims to explain the interpretation of the presumption of innocence in journalism, and the understanding and application of the presumption of innocence by online media journalists. This research uses qualitative methods by utilizing two data collection techniques. Firstly, documentation that collects some related research about the Journalistic Codes of Ethics of the Press Council, PWI and AJI. Secondly, in-depth interviews with four online media journalists. The result shows that the literal interpretation of the presumption of innocence is a principle not to judge someone even though it is side by side with the principle of objectivity, covering both sides, mention of identity, and legal grammar. Online media journalists have a collective understanding of the presumption of innocence. However, the journalists have an authentic understanding that causes the different implementation of the presumption of innocence. Moreover, demands for faster news production, media agency policies, and personal interest from journalists also impact partial implementation. This research contributes by forming a model for applying the presumption of innocence for online media journalists to avoid trial by the press.

Tunasmalang.id as an online news portal from PDM (Pimpinan Daerah Muhammadiyah) Malang City has not functioned optimally due to a lack of human resources for news production and a simple website display. This community service program aims to optimize the online news portal Tunasmalang.id through a citizen journalism approach and improve its website so that it represents PDM Malang City. The method used journalism training with a learning by doing system, and improves the appearance of the Tunasmalang.id website. This community service succeeded in forming citizen journalist contributors who came from members of the Muhammadiyah Autonomous Organization throughout Malang City, who producting news content on Tunasmalang.id. The presence of citizen journalist contributors has increased the quantity and variety of news content on Tunasmalang.id. Website improvements give Tunasmalang.id a different appearance from before, and the Tunasmalang.id website can represent PDM Malang City. Community service states that the citizen journalism approach does not only function for the development of Tunasmalang.id as an online news portal, but can also empowering members of the Muhammadiyah Autonomous Organization throughout Malang City to become citizen journalists. The citizen journalism approach and improving the appearance of the website make Tunasmalang.id is a man of extension that delivers information about PDM Malang City and the reality that is happening in society.

The challenges of journalists in facing the new normal of the COVID-19 pandemic

Media performance in providing information, educating people and conducting social control of the change process is influenced by various factors including external factors. The new normal condition of the COVID-19 pandemic has altered the work patterns of journalists. Recently, the press in Indonesia has encountered such a dilemma because the policies and information from the government have shown various inconsistencies and errors. This study illustrates the problems and challenges faced by journalists during the new normal conditions. This study adopted a qualitative descriptive approach with in depth interviews and focus group discussion techniques with journalists in Malang Raya, Indonesia. The results showed that journalists have encountered internal and external challenges during the pandemic. Internal challenges were related to editorial policy that determines the point of view of news and work pattern policy during the pandemic. For safety reasons, the editor prohibited journalists from covering directly in the field. The establishment of a news point of view puts pressure on journalists in carrying out their profession. External challenges come from the government and the Task Force related to information disclosure, the crisis of civility from public officials during the pandemic and inconsistencies in law enforcement for violations of health protocols. Finally, this research suggests five recommendations to strengthen the press's role during the pandemic. They consist of the role of mainstream mass media against hoaxes, editorial policies putting forward health perspectives, packaging news simply and straightforwardly, collaboration between mass media agencies and demanding information disclosure from the government and the COVID-19 Task Force.
