“…Various life span themes and issues are raised and discussed in the review articles: e.g., de velopmental consequences of adolescent friendships [Berndt, 1982], precursors of ado lescent delinquency [Loeber, 1982], the long term impact of crisis resolutions within Erikson's theory of psychosocial development [Meacham and Santilli, 1982], and the farreaching impact of menarche [Grief and Ulman, 1982], Perusal of the empirical reports, however, reveals a notable absence of direct life span oriented investigations -i.e., none of the 15 reports involved attempts directly to investigate the childhood precursors or adult outcomes associated with interindivid ual differences in adolescence. A number of the studies, however, do focus on develop mental issues and employ cross-sectional comparisons and/or relatively short-term longitudinal follow-ups.…”
