ObjectiveThe objective of this study was to describe Ontario primary care teams’ experiences with collaboration during the COVID-19 pandemic. Descriptive qualitative methods using focus groups conducted virtually for data collection.SettingPrimary care teams located in Ontario, Canada.ParticipantsOur study conducted 11 focus groups with 10 primary care teams, with a total of 48 participants reflecting a diverse range of interprofessional healthcare providers and administrators working in primary care.ResultsThree themes were identified using thematic analysis: (1) prepandemic team functioning facilitated adaptation, (2) new processes of team interactions and collaboration, and (3) team as a foundation of support.ConclusionsResults revealed the importance of collaboration for provider well-being, and the challenges of providing collaborative team-based primary care in the pandemic context. Caution against converting primary care collaboration to predominantly virtual modalities postpandemic is recommended. Further research on team functioning during the COVID-19 pandemic in other healthcare organisations will offer additional insight regarding how primary care teams can work collaboratively in a postpandemic environment.

The aim of the study was to investigate the empathy level and caring behaviors perceptions of nursing students.Method: This cross-sectional and correlational study was conducted with 276 nursing students.Results: The mean Empathic Tendency Scale score was 62.71 ± 5.10 (min. 20 to max. 100), indicating a low level of empathy. The mean of the Caring Assessment Questionnaire was 5.42 ± 0.80 (min. 1 to max. 7), showing a good perception of caring behaviors. There was a positive, low, and significant relationship between empathy and caring behaviors (r = 0.286, p < 0.001). Conclusion:This study revealed that nursing students have low-level empathy and high-level caring behaviors.Practice Implications: Throughout the educational process, the students' caring competencies, which include empathy and caring behaviors, developed. It is suggested that humanistic and value-oriented pedagogical approaches be incorporated into nursing curricula.

Introdução: a educação interprofissional (EIP) é uma das muitas estratégias destinadas a enfrentar a crise da força de trabalho em saúde, considerando que poucos profissionais de saúde foram expostos à mesma durante a sua formação acadêmica ou vivenciaram a prática colaborativa. A trajetória da incorporação da EIP nos sistemas de saúde não aconteceu de forma linear e uniforme na última década, influenciada por conceitos polissêmicos para uma mesma prática. Objetivo: o presente estudo tem como objetivo conhecer os efeitos da EIP nos sistemas de saúde disponíveis na literatura científica mundial. Método: trata-se de uma revisão integrativa e atualizada, cuja busca nas bases de dados Pubmed, Scielo e LILACS ocorreu no ano de 2021 com os descritores em saúde “Interprofessionality and health services”. Os critérios de inclusão adotados foram artigos com no máximo 5 anos de publicação; artigos completos ou resumos que levassem aos artigos completos; artigos do tipo revisão de literatura, sistemática e publicações qualitativas, cujo escopo estivesse alinhado ao objetivo do estudo. Foram incialmente selecionadas 196 publicações, das quais 19 foram incorporadas ao estudo. Resultados: as informações demonstraram os efeitos da EIP nos sistemas de saúde em três grandes temas: a cultura organizacional do sistema de saúde, a identidade profissional e a mudança no processo de trabalho. Considerações finais: os efeitos induzidos pela EIP nos sistemas de saúde são a diminuição dos custos operacionais, melhoria no acesso, produção de respostas rápidas aos problemas de saúde, melhora na segurança do paciente, investimento nas tecnologias de comunicação, valorização da empatia coletiva, reafirmação da integralidade, da resolutividade, da satisfação dos usuários e maior conforto dos trabalhadores.
