“…Moreover, the link between Se and S has also been shown in Shewanella sp. O23S, which is able to reduce SeO42 and SeO32 to Se 0 particles with variable S content (Staicu et al, 2022). Our results indicate that sulphur metabolism is important for selenite reduction in P. putida KT2440.…”

“…There are many which are capable of transforming different species of Se by means of reduction-oxidation (redox) reactions, methylation, and demethylation processes (Eswayah et al, 2016). The microbial reduction of oxidized and soluble forms of Se (Se VI and Se IV ) to insoluble Se 0 has been previously described by bacteria of the genera Bacillus, Shewanella, Comamonas, Stenotrophomonas, Azospirillum, and Pseudomonas, among others (Figure 5; Kora, 2018;Vogel et al, 2018;Baggio et al, 2021;Staicu et al, 2022;Ruiz-Fresneda et al, 2023). Currently, the number of known Se VI reducing strains is lower than that of Se IV reducing ones.…”

“… Biogenic Se 0 particles: (A) Extracellular Se 0 produced by a strain of Shewanella (related to Shewanella baltica ) via extracellular respiration (personal archive of Dr Staicu; growth conditions detailed in Staicu et al ( 2022 )); (B) intracellular Se 0 nanoparticles produced by the bacterial species Stenotrophomonas bentonitica (personal archive of Dr Merroun; growth conditions detailed in Ruiz‐Fresneda et al [ 2018 ]). …”
