Interobserver reproducibility of radiographic evaluation of lumbar spine instability

Abstract: Objective:To measure the interobserver reproducibility of the radiographic evaluation of lumbar spine instability. Methods:Measurements of the dynamic radiographs of the lumbar spine in lateral view were performed, evaluating the anterior translation and the angulation among the vertebral bodies. The tests were evaluated at workstations of the organization, through the Carestream Health Vue RIS (PACS), version 11.0.12.14 Inc. 2009© system. Results:Agreement in detecting cases of radiographic instability among th… Show more

“…Furthermore, we were able to demonstrate that the comparison of plain radiographs to either CT scans or MRI images is more sensitive for the detection of increased sagittal translation than functional X-rays alone. As there is a multitude of different functional radiographs that lack standardized routines and depend on compliance and effort of patients and examiners alike, different results due to impaired specificity have to be expected ( 18 , 26 , 30 ). Simplifying the diagnostic process reduces interpatient and interexaminer differences and might help avoid misdiagnosis.…”

“…In Chuna manual therapy [ 15 , 16 , 17 ], vertebral alignment is evaluated according to the relative positions of the upper and lower vertebral bodies [ 18 ]. Among many diagnostic methods, X-ray has the advantage of being objective and highly reproducible [ 19 ].…”

“…In addition to the relationship between weight gain and the onset of pain, the acute production of inflammatory cytokines of adipose tissue in patients with low back pain is also studied. 9,10 On the other hand, physical exercise is a non-pharmacological therapy with few collateral or adverse effects, consisting of activities of a systematic nature, with a sequence of movements that can include numerous activities or forms of aerobic, resistance, flexibility, strength, and speed exercises, among others, focused on the health of the individual. 11,12 The goal of aerobic exercise is to incorporate low to moderate intensity activities of longer duration, involving the rhythmicity of muscle groups to promote abundant oxygen intake.…”
