The government which statutorily bears the costs of public universities in the country now faces tight budget constraints, hence, the diversification of income streams is a very complex process. The study populations are the principal officers in the management and administrative cadre of the Universities in Ondo State Purposive random sampling method was used to pick the two oldest universities out of the three public Universities in Ondo State. A total number of fifty (50) management staff was used. An inventory tagged 'Inventory on Internally Generated Revenue in Ondo State Public Universities (IIGROSPU) was used to gather data. Two research questions were raised and one hypothesis tested. Centre for Diploma and Pre-Degree Studies got the highest percentage (49.04%)in AAUA and (44.23%) in FUTA of the total IGR obtained on average for the ten years under consideration. A negative and significant relationship between Internally Generated Revenue and Amount Spent on Infrastructural in public universities in Ondo State in the study period. (r = -.038, P< 0.05). The study concludes that, each university management should create an IGR coordination centre and university managements should make attractive the profit sharing formula between the central administration and the departments where IGR is generated.

The study sought to determine funding patterns and cost-sharing in public universities in Nigeria. The main purpose of the study was to determine lecturers' perception about funding patterns and cost-sharing in public universities and provide implications for global competitiveness. To achieve the purpose, one research question and one hypothesis were developed to direct the study. One hundred (100) lecturers were purposively sampled from a population of one thousand six hundred and six (1606). A research instrument titled "Funding Patterns in Public Universities and Cost-sharing Questionnaire (FPPUCQ)" was validated, and administered to twenty (20) lecturers, for data collection. Data collected were analyzed with Mean, Standard Deviation and Independent t-test. The result showed that funding patterns and costsharing need improvement. It was concluded that the funding patterns and cost-sharing in universities needs improvement in order to ensure the provision of quality education for global competitiveness. It was recommended among others that managers of universities should be more prudent in utilizing the meager allocations of government, students' contribution, internally generated revenue, philanthropic donations, among others.

The poor funding of education in many developing nations, including Nigeria, is widely acknowledged in national and international literature. This indicates the need for alternative approaches to be adopted regarding the supplementation of funds from government and non-government sources. This study takes an empirical approach to evaluate the internal revenue generation strategies adopted by school managers, and how they influence the level of school finance. Quantitative data were obtained from a random sample of 407 secondary school managers (136 principals and 271 viceprincipals) selected from 136 schools in Cross River State, Nigeria. Findings showed that prevalent internal revenue generation techniques adopted by principals include PTA levies, the sale of art and craft materials, alumni support, and funds from parents. Aside from these four, there were seventeen other strategies not utilized by the majority of secondary school principals. It was also revealed that the extent of school finance depended on the level of principals' generation of internal revenue. Based on these findings relevant policy implications are discussed for future school financing and development. It was recommended that workshops should be organized for secondary school managers to learn innovative approaches to generate internal revenue to assist with the smooth running of schools. Contribution/Originality: This study used a new estimation approach to assess the techniques adopted by educational managers in generating funds internally for secondary schools. The study also used a rigorous technique to examine various internally generated revenue (IGR) techniques and the extent to which they are utilized for school-based funding.
