Interferometric Isar Imaging on Maritime Target Applications: Simulation of Realistic Targets and Dynamics

Abstract: Abstract-ISAR imaging of maritime targets has greater success than other ISAR applications due to the constant oscillatory motions induced by waves and wind. However, relative target motions are usually unknown, difficult focusing, image interpretation and target classification. Using interferometry to obtain the height information makes possible to obtain a 3-D reconstruction of a target, aiding image focusing, image interpretation and target classification. However, the information and utility of the ISAR im… Show more

“…There are many radar signatures which can be used for radar target recognition: Natural frequencies of radar target [159][160][161][162][163][164][165][166], high resolution range (HRR) profiles [72,[75][76][77][78][79][80] of radar target, microwave image of the radar target [1,26,31,50,55,70,73,[81][82][83][84][85][86][87][88][89][90][91][92][93][94][95][96][97][98][99][100], and inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) [55, 86-100, 125, 126] image proved to be useful features for target recognition. Jet engine modulation and helicopter modulation [127,128] have also been known as useful features for target recognition.…”

“…Linear TFTs, such as the shorttime Fourier transform (STFT) and the wavelet transform (WT) are well-known methods and are conceptually simple to implement [8][9][10]. Despite their operational simplicity, the resolution limitation always arises from the window-induced Heisenberg-Gabor limit.…”

“…Different from the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images [1][2][3], the ISAR (inverse SAR) images [4][5][6][7][8][9] can have severe image smearing problems caused by the time-varying Doppler frequency. This is because conventional ISAR imaging with the Fourier transform (FT) cannot show how frequency components vary with time.…”

“…The inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) can obtain high resolution images of moving targets by utilizing the information inherent in differential target Doppler and is greatly contributive in target recognition [1][2][3][4][5][6]. Generally, ISAR aims at non-cooperative moving target, whose motion can be decomposed into rotational motion and translational motion.…”
