Coherent Phase Compensation Method Based on Direct if Sampling in Wideband Radar

Abstract: Abstract-In order to eliminate the negative influence of the rotational phase component (RPC) of target prominent scattering centres on the performance of Doppler centroid tracking (DCT) method, a coherent phase compensation method is proposed. The coherence of echo pulses sampled directly in intermediate frequency (IF) is firstly analyzed and proved.Based on the coherence property, the proposed approach improves the translational phase component (TPC) estimation accuracy of DCT. Compared to the modified Doppl… Show more

“…The DIFS technique has the advantage in maintaining the coherence of echo pulse. Based on the coherent property, the translational motion compensation can be implemented by taking in coherent method based on the motion track of the target [14,15], which eliminates the negative influence caused by the spinning.…”

“…Because only rotational motion of target contributes to the Doppler spectrum in ISAR imaging, the translational motion is undesirable and needs to be eliminated before applying cross-range focusing. Theoretically, it can be compensated based on the measured parameters of motion, such as speed and trajectory of target [17]. However, due to the uncooperative motion of target and the imprecision of radar system, there are always errors in the measurements.…”

“…Compared to dechirping (or stretch) processing, matched-filter correlation processing can keep both the HRRP and phase history of the echoes coherent [23]. Thus the translational motion compensation parameters for ISAR imaging are just the radial motion parameters of the target.…”
