Interferometric Imaging of IRAS 04368+2557 in the L1527 Molecular Cloud Core: A Dynamically Infalling Envelope with Rotation

Abstract: We report new interferometric observations of IRAS 04368]2557 (L1527) in 13CO (J \ 1È0), C18O (J \ 1È0), and 2.7 mm continuum emission using the Nobeyama Millimeter Array. The continuum map shows a well-deÐned emission peak with slightly extended features. The extended features are consistent with an 800 km continuum map. The 13CO map shows blueshifted and redshifted outÑowing shells characterized by a bipolar V-shape structure with a wide opening angle toward the east and west of the central source. Near the … Show more

“…It is observed in a nearly edge-on configuration (∼90 • viewing angle) (Ohashi et al 1997) and features a large, dense circumstellar envelope (Ladd et al 1991;Chen et al 1995;Motte & André 2001). It also exhibits a prominent bipolar outflow whose lobes are oriented along the east-west direction (Parker et al 1991).…”

“…This is a well-known low-mass Class 0 protostar (Barsony et al 1998) driving a powerful, highly collimated outflow (Bachiller et al 1990), which has been imaged at high Jørgensen et al (2007); (c) André et al (1999); (d) Ohashi et al (1997); (e) Bourke et al (2006); (f) Crapsi et al (2004).…”

“…Abundant observational data, in several molecular species, is available in the literature for these clouds (Cernicharo & Guélin 1987;Daniel et al 2007;Duvert et al 1986;Fuller et al 1996;Hogerheijde et al 1997;Hogerheijde 2001;Myers et al 1995;Ohashi et al 1997;Takakuwa et al 2000;Brinch et al 2007). Except for TMC1 for which the position corresponds to the cyanopolyyne peak, the selected pointing positions for the other sources correspond to the envelope surrounding the dense cores.…”

“…The mass evolution of the disk and envelope can be deduced from millimeter surveys that combine both aperture synthesis and singledish observations (Keene & Masson 1990;Terebey et al 1993;Looney et al 2003;Jørgensen et al 2009;Enoch et al 2011). However, precise determination of stellar masses requires spatially and spectrally resolved molecular line observations of the velocity gradient in the inner regions of embedded YSOs (Sargent & Beckwith 1987;Ohashi et al 1997;Brinch et al 2007;Lommen et al 2008;Jørgensen et al 2009;Takakuwa et al 2012;Yen et al 2013). Here we apply a similar analysis to the synthetic continuum and molecular line data as performed on the observations to test the reliability of the inferred masses.…”
