Interference of Infectious Bursal Diseases (IBD) Virus and Vaccine with the Immune Responses of Guinea Fowls to Newcastle Disease Lasota Vaccination

Abstract: The interference of Infectious bursal disease (IBD) virus and vaccine with the immune response of the grey brested guinea fowl (Numida meleagridis galeata palas) to Newcastle desease (ND) "LaSota" vaccine was studied using hemagglutination inhibition (HI) test for detection of ND virus antibody and agar gel precipitation test (AGPT) for the presence of IBD virus antibody. A statistically significant difference (p<0.05) in HI antibody response was noted between the group vaccinated with ND "LaSota" vaccine alon… Show more

“…The results could be explained by the used avian species -guineafowl. The investigations of El-Yuguda et al (11,12) with guineafowl vaccinated and infected with IBDV and later, vaccinated with a lentogenic APMV-1 strain La Sota did not perform any attempts for reisolation, but only evaluated the humoral immune response and pathological changes.…”

“…El-Yuguda et al (2007,2014) (52,53) performed experiments with two bird species (guinea fowl and chickens). In two experimental designs with guinea fowl they investigated the immune response after vaccination with live vaccine of infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) followed by vaccination with lentogenic La Sota APMV-1 strain 7 days later; while the second design included infection of birds with a pathogenic IBDV strain and vaccination with lentogenic La Sota APMV-1 strain 7 days later.…”

“…Other factors to consider include the prevalence of other infectious diseases like IBD capable of immunosuppressing the village chickens. El-Yuguda et al [32] have reported significant depression of primary antibody of chickens to ND vaccine when administered one week after IBD infection or vaccination. It is therefore fundamental to monitor the prevalence of other infectious diseases capable of immunosuppression and to implement specific vaccination programme for their control.…”
