Interface superconductivity

Abstract: Low dimensional superconducting systems have been the subject of numerous studies for many years. In this article, we focus our attention on interfacial superconductivity, a field that has been boosted by the discovery of superconductivity at the interface between the two band insulators LaAlO 3 and SrTiO 3 .We explore the properties of this amazing system that allows the electric field control and on/off switching of superconductivity. We discuss the similarities and differences between bulk doped SrTiO 3 and… Show more

“…The in-plane coherence length remains larger than the superconducting thickness for all dopings [14,39], which is again consistent with the 2D character of the superconducting 2DEL. Figure 2 displays the thicknesses and critical temperatures measured as a function of the Hall density n 2D [27].…”

“…This confirms the 2D nature of the superconducting state across the whole phase diagram. The angular dependence of the critical fields allows us to determine the in-plane coherence length ξ (T ) and the effective thickness L of the superconducting 2DEL [39]. From the perpendicular critical field H c⊥ (T ), we extract…”

“…Based on our calculations, we propose a semiquantitative interpretation in terms of an effective mass which increases significantly in ultrathin films. Another system of interest is the twodimensional electron gas at the LaAlO 3 /SrTiO 3 interface, which enters a superconducting phase at a density-dependent temperature slightly lower than the T c of bulk SrTiO 3 [30]. Whether or not this interface superconductivity has the same origin as in bulk SrTiO 3 , and whether it can be understood by the confinement of SrTiO 3 carriers, remain important open issues [31][32][33].…”

“…Here it is suspected that the Rashba-type SO coupling at the interface may play an important role in the formation of the superconducting state [75].…”
