Interactive Coherence‐Based Façade Modeling

Abstract: Figure 1: Starting from an orthogonal input image (left top), the user interactively segments the façade into shapes (bottom left). Most split lines and symmetries are found automatically by the system, while the global façade structure is determined by the user. The input resolution is 1024 × 756, the number of visible shapes is 1346, and the modeling time is about 8 minutes (with material and depth assignments about 15 minutes). AbstractWe propose a novel interactive framework for modeling building façades f… Show more

“…Later, Hou, Qi, & Qine (2012) presented a methodology where a set of rules are extracted from a drawing elevation with the aim of reproducing 3D buildings of Chinese architecture. In the same year, Musialski, Wimmer, & Wonka (2012) based their work on an interactive framework that use images for the building facade modeling.…”

“…Procedural systems are also used in the context of facade modeling: PRZEMYSLAW MUSIALSKI et al present an interactive framework for modeling building facades from images [102]. FAN BAO et al show a technique to create procedural facade variations from a single layout [103].…”

“…On a coarse scale, the procedural paradigm is applicable to the generation of terrain using methods based on hydrology (Génevaux et al, 2013), as well as the generation of roads (Galin et al, 2010), entire city layouts (Lipp et al, 2011) and urban spaces (Vanegas et al, 2010). Within the scale of a building, layouts can be generated (Merrell et al, 2010), (Bao et al, 2013b) exhibiting different façades (Musialski et al, 2012a), (Bao et al, 2013a). Exterior Lighting can be designed even for buildings with complex constraints (Schwarz and Wonka, 2014).…”
