In present work, the interaction of an anionic dye, bromocresol green (BCG) with a cationic surfactant, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), was studied using conductometric method. The effect of alteration of solvent media from water to cosolvent isopropanol and the effect of elevation in experimental temperature on the association behaviour of BCG-CTAB system were studied. The observed CMC and ΔG°m values indicate disfavored micellization of CTAB system in isopropanol. Whereas micellization of CTAB is favoured in the presence of BCG as additive. For BCG-CTAB system micellization becomes more feasible in presence of isopropanol. The observed value of ΔH°m and ΔS°m predicts micellization of CTAB is endothermic and entropy driven in aqueous solution, whereas, in the presence of BCG it becomes exothermic and enthalpy driven. The micellization process of BCG-CTAB system is exothermic and enthalpy driven in isopropanol. The calculated thermodynamic parameters of transfer for the BCG-CTAB system from water to water-isopropanol media at various temperatures (ΔG°m,tr, ΔH°m,tr, ΔS°m,tr) also supports the entropy-enthalpy mutual act in the micellization process of BCG-CTAB system. Present study also reveals that a compensation phenomenon is operative between the enthalpy and entropy of micellization in case of association process involving the CTAB and the BCG-CTAB systems. The hydrophobic stabilization results to increase in spontaneity of micellization of BCG-CTAB system in water while there is a decrease in hydrophobic stabilization in the presence of isopropanol and a decrease in spontaneity of micellization.

Nanofluids are used to increase thermal performance in various applications of heat transfer. In the present study, to increase the performance of the cooling system, nanolubricant prepared with zinc oxide (ZnO) and silver (Ag) doped ZnO nanoparticles were used. ZnO and Ag/ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized via precipitation and co-precipitation methods, respectively. The effects of Ag particles added to ZnO nanoparticles at the rate of 5% on thermal performance were investigated. XRD and SEM examinations of the synthesized nanoparticles were made in detail and their suitability was determined. Nanolubricants were prepared by mixing 0.5% and 1.0% (wt./wt.) ZnO or Ag/ZnO and 0.5% (wt./wt.) Tween 80 (T80). The coefficient of performance (COP) values maximum increased by 18.20% and 23.68%, respectively, in the use of mineral oil with added 1.0% ZnO and 1.0% Ag/ZnO nanoparticles in the nanolubricants. In the cooling system, the compressor work decreased by 18.71% using the nanolubricant prepared with Ag-doped ZnO hybrid nanoparticles at a 1.0% mass fraction.

The surface properties of mixtures of a nonionic surfactant Tween 80 (Tw 80) and a cationic drug, diphenhydramine HCl (DPH) have been investigated. This was done by calculating the surface excess concentration (Γmax), minimum molecular area (Amin), surface pressure at the CMC (ᴨcmc), Gibbs Free Energy of adsorption (ΔG°ads), Gibbs free energy of micellization (ΔG°m), the standard enthalpy of micellization (ΔH°m), and the standard entropy of micellization (ΔS°m). The calculation was performed using the surface tension in the temperature range of 293-323 K with the variation of surfactant concentration to determine the critical micelle concentration (cmc) of the system studied. The variation of cmc values of drug concentration (DPH) with temperature was used to calculate the parameters above. The results indicate that the cmc values of Tw 80 increased when the (DPH) was added and when the temperature increased at the whole temperature studied. The results obtained for interfacial properties show that Γmax decreases with the addition of DPH and decreases with DPH concentration increase from 10-5 to 10-4M and decreases with temperature increases. The results of thermodynamic properties indicate that the micellization and adsorption at the interface are spontaneous and the ΔG̊ads are more negative than ΔG̊m at all temperatures.
