Interaction of Ceramic Implant Materials with Immune System

Abstract: The immuno-compatibility of implant materials is a key issue for both initial and long-term implant integration. Ceramic implants have several advantages that make them highly promising for long-term medical solutions. These beneficial characteristics include such things as the material availability, possibility to manufacture various shapes and surface structures, osteo-inductivity and osteo-conductivity, low level of corrosion and general biocompatibility. The immuno-compatibility of an implant essentially d… Show more

“…[10] A study of 6.485 men diagnosed with localized prostate cancer in Missouri and Ohio showed a 10-year survival rate of 88.9%, with a 1.8% prostate cancer-specific mortality rate. [31] In a retrospective study of 22.033 men who had radical prostatectomy between 2005 and 2015 (without additional radiation or hormone therapy), 27% experienced biochemical recurrence (BCR). Among those with BCR, 11% developed metastases.…”

“…Moreover, micro/nano-structured HA scaffolds can be designed through several techniques. [15][16][17] Choosing the appropriate approach is critical to avoiding potential drawbacks such as ceramic scaffold's low mechanical strength due to excessive porosity, pore size, or insufficient internal pore connections. 18,19 A slip-casting method is a process that can develop complex three-dimensional structures by pouring a viscous slurry into a mold, drying it, and then sintering the obtained green body.…”
