Intensity of Official Futsal Matches

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to assess the intensity of official Futsal matches, expressed in different ways. Fourteen male professional Futsal players from a First Division Brazilian team volunteered to participate in this study. Maximal oxygen uptake (VO(2)max) and the heart hate (HR) and oxygen uptake (VO(2)) correlation were determined for each player. The match intensity was estimated from the players' average HR measured during 13 National Futsal League matches. The HR measurements were obtained while t… Show more

“…These findings highlight that players attained a high-intensity effort during both matches. Previous studies confirm the high physiological demands of Futsal matches 10,11,20 . Nowadays many athletes and coaches habitually use CWI after intense training sessions or competitive matches expecting that this intervention will accelerate recovery 1,2 .…”

“…Despite its worldwide popularity, there are few studies investigating Futsal; therefore, the physiological and neuromuscular demands required from athletes of this modality are not fully known [1][2][3][4][5] . Furthermore, Martin-Silva et al 6 have reported that there are only few studies aimed at investigating women's futsal.…”

“…5 The importance of RE in both sports is the high submaximal rate of oxygen consumption (soccer, 70-80% and futsal, >75%) which occurs during matches. [6][7] A better RE reduces energy expenditure and accelerates the athletes' recovery process in terms of ATP production. 8 In short, to improve economy, a reduction of the energy cost is of paramount importance.…”
