Intelligent street light system in context of smart grid

As the availability of computational power and communication technologies increases, Humans and systems are able to tackle increasingly challenging decision problems. Taking decisions over incomplete visions of a situation is particularly challenging and calls for a set of intertwined skills that must be put into place under a clear rationale. This work addresses how to deliver autonomous decisions for the management of a public street lighting network, to optimize energy consumption without compromising light quality patterns. Our approach is grounded in an holistic methodology, combining semantic and Artificial Intelligence principles to define methods and artefacts for supporting decisions to be taken in the context of an incomplete domain. That is, a domain with absence of data and of explicit domain assertions.

Introduction: This Literature Review article is the result of a research on the current situation of smart public lighting systems with light-emitting diode (LED) technology in cities around the world. Problem: How convenient is it to use smart public lighting system with LED luminaires? Objective: To review the context of smart public lighting with LED technology. Methodology: Within this project, a lit review was conducted with more than 50 academic articles found in different databases such as: IEEE Xplore, Scopus, ScienceDirect etc. The selection criteria of the information followed the revision of articles from 2006 to 2018, and also, took into account their installation and performance in different cities and places of the world. Furthermore, articles on polluting and inefficient technologies were excluded. Conclusion: Considering the current context in which LED smart public lighting is, it is more likely to be implemented in the future. Results: Smart LED street lighting systems are more efficient in energy use, leads to savings in costs in medium terms, and finally, present a lower environmental impact compared to conventional lighting systems. Limitations: The review focuses on energy efficiency and economic aspects, not on social aspects. Originality: Smart LED public lighting systems have been researched within the economic and energy efficiency context.

Currently, there are still many street lighting systems with electrical resources that use a full power system or a time system to regulate the power issued by the lamp so that in terms of the costs incurred for the lamp, it is also quite large. And in terms of maintenance, for now the problematic street lighting is still using conventional methods, namely waiting for damage reports from the field directly so that the handling of damaged lamps is very slow. Based on these problems, a street lighting lamp with automatic control will be designed that can adjust the light intensity and report the status of the lamp online through the Internet of Things (IoT) website which can be accessed using a smartphone or PC connected to the internet so that energy use and handling actions will be carried out. damage is more efficient. In this study, an automatic PJU was designed with a Passive Infrared Receiver (PIR) sensor to detect the presence or absence of objects around the lamp and an ESP module to connect the hardware to the internet network via a Wi-Fi connection . For the automatic system of turning on and off the lights based on bright and dark conditions of sunlight using a Photocell containing a Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) . With the use of this system, it can be proven that the use of Passive Infrared Receiver (PIR) sensors and Thingspeak website-based monitoring can streamline spending on electricity financing and accelerate the handling of lamp damage.
