Our objective was to analyze the presence of cultural heritage in a sample of music teaching materials, in the Galician (Spain) context. We used content analysis; and developed an instrument-guide for the evaluation of teaching materials. This guide was divided into eight blocks that included topics related to the analysis of the presence of tangible and intangible goods. The sample consisted of 10 musical albums from the Autonomous Community of Galicia. The results showed that the presence of cultural heritage elements is scarce in these resources and, significantly, in their illustrations. On the other hand, audiovisual resources such as DVDs were found to include the greatest number of characteristic elements of the language and culture of Galicia. This research provides initial information on the analysis of the characteristics of music teaching materials, and it represents one of the first studies on this topic in the Spanish context. The novelty of our research for teaching materials and music education lies in the proposed cultural and linguistic dimensions as new criteria for evaluating teaching materials.
