Integrated Random Early Detection for Congestion Control at the Router Buffer

Abstract: This paper proposed an Integrated Random Early Detection (IRED) method that aims to resolve the problems of the queue-based AQM and loadbased AQM and gain the benefits of both using indicators from both types. The arrival factor (e.g., arrival rate, queue and capacity) and the departure factors are used to estimate the congestion through two integrated indicators. The utilized indicators are mathematically calculated and integrated to gain unified and coherent congestion indicators. Besides, IRED is built base… Show more

“…Linear RED (LRED) [34] developed a linear equation with calculations to reduce the complexity of RED. Integrated RED (IRED) [35] used arrival, departure, and queue length factors to improve the AQM performance. Table 1 summarizes the existing work on crisp-based AQM methods.…”

“…Accordingly, the BLUE method used a mechanism of two cases formulated using IF-THEN. The first case is for increasing Dp, and the other is for decreasing it [4]. There is a case left open in which none of the previous cases occurs; in such a case, Dp remains unchanged [5].…”
