Integrated Mosquito Management: Is Precision Control a Luxury or Necessity?

Abstract: The versatility of mosquito species that spread emerging arthropod-borne viruses such as Zika has highlighted the urgent need to re-evaluate mosquito control standards. The prospect of using precise knowledge of the geographic distribution and vector status of local populations to guide targeted interventions has gained renewed attention, but the feasibility and utility of such an approach remain to be investigated. Using the example of mosquito management in the United States, we present ideas for designing, … Show more

“…While there is currently no perfect single solution, TAR can be reduced using an integrated approach to tick management This type of approach has been shown to be very useful at reducing mosquito-borne infections, with the caveat that such programs require close management and long-term maintenance [87,154,155].…”

“…Esta información se puede utilizar para proporcionar un dato de vigilancia más sólido y completo capaz de identificar nuevos desafíos para la seguridad de la salud pública. Palabras Clave: vigilancia; ecología vectorial; rarefacción; análisis de redundancia; Culicidae An accurate assessment of the local mosquito community is necessary to address the risk posed by mosquito-associated pathogens and guide abatement programs (Fouet & Kamdem 2019;Rund et al 2019a). Entomological monitoring can detect vector and nuisance species of interest that contribute to accurate abundance estimates in order to identify changes in community composition.…”

“…This can be seen from the areas where dengue is infected in Aceh Besar District, a densely populated area, including Darul Imarah District, Darul Kamal District, Simpang Tiga District, and Krueng Barona Jaya District. Various mosquito control programs have recently been implemented in response to an increased incidence of several diseases spread to humans through the bites of infected mosquitoes [6], [7].…”
