RESUMO -Foram estudados os efeitos da adição de adjuvantes e a associação com herbicidas na infectividade do fungo dentro do patossistema Fusarium graminearum x Egeria spp. Foram utilizadas plantas sadias de Egeria densa e E. najas inoculadas com uma suspensão de arroz moído colonizado por F. graminearum, na concentração de 0,7 g L -1 . Os tubos de ensaio contendo as plantas imersas na referida suspensão foram mantidos em incubadora à temperatura de 25 o C e fotoperíodo de 12 horas diárias de luz, por oito dias, durante os quais foram avaliados os sintomas nas plantas a cada dois dias e o crescimento destas através do incremento de matéria fresca ao final do experimento. O efeito de 14 adjuvantes e 6 herbicidas, adicionados à suspensão de inóculo, sobre a ação de F. graminearum em E. densa e E. najas foi avaliado. De modo geral, os adjuvantes melhoraram a eficiência do bioerbicida e a associação herbicida + fungo proporcionou maior severidade de doença e controle do crescimento das plantas.Palavras-chave : bioerbicida, Elodea, macrófitas aquáticas submersas, controle biológico. Abstract:Research is being conducted by U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) scientists to identify naturalized and/or native herbivores of aquatic plants in an effort to develop alternative management strategies through an understanding of the agents' biology and ecology. Some of the native species showing promise as biocontrol agents include Altica spp. for water primrose, Donacia spp. for American lotus, and Euhrychiopsis lecontei for Eurasian watermilfoil control. Naturalized species with possibility include Cyrtobagus salviniae for common and giant salvinia, and Parapoynx diminutalis for hydrilla. Information is presented herein for selected native and naturalized agents that may potentially be used to impact and manage all types of aquatic and wetland plant species including introduced, naturalized, and native species. The impact of growth temperature was evaluated for the fungal plant pathogen Mycoleptodiscus terrestris over a range of temperatures (20Á368C). The effect of temperature on biomass accumulation, colony forming units (cfu), and microsclerotia production was determined. Culture temperatures of 24Á308C produced significantly higher biomass accumulations and 20Á248C resulted in a significantly higher cfu. The growth of M. terrestris was greatly reduced at temperatures above 308C and was absent at 368C. The highest microsclerotia concentrations were produced over a wide range of temperatures (20Á308C). These data suggest that a growth temperature of 248C would optimize the parameters evaluated in this study. In addition to growth parameters, we also evaluated the desiccation tolerance and storage stability of air-dried microsclerotial preparations from these cultures during storage at 48C. During 5 months storage, there was no significant difference in viability for air-dried microsclerotial preparations from cultures grown at 20Á308C (!72% hyphal germination) or in conidia production (sporogenic germination) for air-dried preparations from cultures grown at 20Á328C. When the effect of temperature on germination by air-dried microsclerotial preparations was evaluated, data showed that temperatures of 22Á308C were optimal for hyphal and sporogenic germination. Air-dried microsclerotial preparations did not germinate hyphally at 368C or sporogenically at 20, 32, 34, or 368C. These data show that temperature does impact the growth and germination of M. terrestris and suggest that water temperature may be a critical environmental consideration for the application of air-dried M. terrestris preparations for use in controlling hydrilla.
