Integrated evaluation the antioxidant activity of epicatechin from cell dynamics

Abstract: Oxidative damage has been implicated in the pathogenesis of numerous disorders by affecting the normal functions of several tissues. Further, oxidative stress acts within cells to influence cell morphology and the behavior of cell migration. The movement and migration of cells are crucial during the development of organisms as they transition from embryo to adult, and for the homeostasis of adult tissues. Epicatechin (EC) is a natural flavonoid derived mostly from tea, chocolate, and red wine. We investigated … Show more

“…However, when the concentration increased to 200 μg/mL, the ABTS radical scavenging rates of both PPE and L-ascorbic acid were about 99.99%, which were five times of that of CPE, from which demonstrated the strong antioxidant activity of PPE. In conclusion, both PPE and CPE showed strong ABTS radical scavenging capacity, from which PPE being more potent, which could be due to its higher content of polyphenols, mainly including chlorogenic acid, epicatechin and catechin (Qing et al, 2023;Serra et al, 2021).…”

“…The epicatechin unit presented significant effects due to the structural features of ortho-dihydroxy at B ring and hydroxyl groups at positions 3 and 5, which are helpful for electron delocalization and provide hydrogen bonding with the oxo group [24]. Moreover, epicatechin (2) has been reported as a potent natural antioxidant [25] with hepatocyte protective [26], cardiovascular protective [27], and anti-aging effects [28] previously. Therefore, epicatechin (2) may be one of the important antioxidative chemical compositions in AOE.…”
