Integrated Bioinformatics Analysis Identifies Hub Genes Associated with the Pathogenesis and Prognosis of Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Abstract: Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) accounts for over 90% of all esophageal tumors. However, the molecular mechanism underlying ESCC development and prognosis remains unclear, and there are still no effective molecular biomarkers for diagnosing or predicting the clinical outcome of patients with ESCC. Here, using bioinformatics analyses, we attempted to identify potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for ESCC. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between ESCC and normal esophageal tissue samples w… Show more

“…Similarly, the whole genome sequencing research also pointed out that the gene profiling of ESCA patients is different from that of normal people [7]. Researchers have realized that gene expression profile plays an extremely irreplaceable role in the analysis of cancer development, which can make poor survival rate in ESCA [8]. However, the value of single gene biomarker in predicting the prognosis is limited because of the tumor heterogeneity, especially caused by the alteration of genes.…”

“…DEGs were screened with the following cut-off criteria: [log 2 fold change (FC)] > 0.5 and P value < 0.05. Overlapping DEGs between two brain regions were obtained using the Venn diagram packages [ 13 , 14 ] in the R environment.…”

“…After collating drug and disease targets, these two target categories were compared and filtered to identify common elements. The potential targets of BMGLF related to the treatment of bronchiectasis were then input into Cytoscape 3.7.1 software for construction of a chemical ingredient-target network [ 28 ].…”
