Insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome in primary gout: relation to punched‐out erosions

Abstract: The level of SUA is closely related to IR in patients with and without MetS. There is an association of the severity of gout and presence of MTP erosions to IR. Metabolic syndrome forms an important marker for those who develop more punched-out erosions.

“…Following a data analysis performed on data from 517 participants in the Bogalusa Heart Study, Muntner et al (67) suggested that an elevated body mass index was associated with high levels of uric acid. Furthermore, the BP analysis of the genes in the PPI network contained terms including 'hexose transmembrane transport' and 'regulation of insulin secretion', and the two groups involved in glycose metabolism have been reported to affect the transport of uric acid (68)(69)(70). The majority of the enriched BP terms were revealed to be involved in metabolite transports, which are closely associated with urate transport.…”

“…For example, Gheita et al . demonstrated that bone erosion was more prevalent in gout patients with metabolic syndrome compared with those without metabolic syndrome [ 27 ]. However, there were no differences in the frequency of bone erosion at the affected joints in individuals with and without VFO in the current study (data not shown).…”

“…Nowadays, the incidence of hyperuricemia is increasing. Hyperuricemia is closely related to hypertension, atherosclerosis, insulin resistance and kidney disease, which seriously affects health [63][64][65][66]. Drugs usually used to treat hyperuricemia have some side effects that may affect the health of the body.…”
