Insights into coloration enhancement of mercerized cotton fabric on reactive dye digital inkjet printing

Abstract: Mercerization can control the crystallinity of cotton fiber, promote the absorption of ink droplets' wick into the fiber and inhibit ink droplets from penetrating the back of fabric. Therefore, the printing quality was extremely enhanced.

“…Since the maximum amount of ink that different fabrics can absorb varies due to differences in fabric structure properties and processing techniques, 20 the color depth may not be increased if the amount of ink exceeds a certain level. However, the ink may disperse on the fabric surface, causing color to blend across color patches and reducing the clarity of patterns.…”

“…Using them to dye wood materials has the advantages of low cost, convenience, and high color fastness. 11 At present, laboratory-prepared transparent wood is of single color type. If the wood dyeing process can be combined with the transparent wood preparation technology, it is expected to produce transparent wood with rich colors.…”

“…Most inkjet printing technology requires chemical pretreatment on fabric before printing to enhance performance. ,,,, Some materials need a postwashing treatment as well after printing. The pretreatment or post-treatment may generate a large amount of chemical wastewater containing alkali, urea, thickener, acid, and release agents. …”
