Insecticidal effects of zinc oxide nanoparticles and Beauveria bassiana TS11 on Trialeurodes vaporariorum (Westwood, 1856) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae)

Abstract: Greenhouse whitefly, Trialeurodes vaporariorum is a major pest of horticultural and ornamental plants and is usually controlled with insecticides or biological control agents. In the current study, we examined the effects of synthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) and Beauveria bassiana TS11 on T. vaporariorum adults. ZnO NPs were synthesized by precipitation method. Field emission scanning electron microscope images indicated that ZnO NPs were noncompacted uniformly. X-ray diffraction results confirmed… Show more

“…The development of S. frugiperda was significantly jeopardized due to their exposure to ZnO NPs as displayed in Table 1. These observations corroborate other findings before with different insects such as rice weevil Sitophilus oryzae and Trialeurodes vaporariorum where mortality was recorded due to exposure to ZnO NPs [25] and [26]. Also, when leaves infested by Aphis nerii were dipped into various concentrations of ZnO NPs, there was a significant effect on their development [23].…”

“…The predatory efficiency was enhanced to 8.7, 5.9, 1.2, and 0.36 larvae day (instar I, II, III, and IV, respectively) after treatment with Solanum xanthocarpum fruit extract. “…Khooshe-Bast et al [76], under laboratory conditions with greenhouse whitefly, Trialeurodes vaporariorum (Westwood) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae), obtained a mortality rate of 91.6% with ZnO NPs at a concentration of 20 mg L −1 and an LC 50 of 7.35 mg L −1 .…”
